I'm an art teacher and ordered some of these knives for my students without realizing they were any different from the old "pressure gauges". I agree that they are safer for kids or beginners but are more difficult to use in my opinion. In addition, the quality of the blades was inconsistent. Some were sharp enough to easily cut, while others were blunter and more difficult to manipulate. Also, the shape of the blade makes it completely impossible for left-handers to use it.

I had one like that, I really liked it, but it broke. I ordered this thinking it was the same, but the blades have a hook on the end of the insert, no instructions on how to insert. This Halloween I didn't feel like carving pumpkins in the traditional sense (cutting holes in a pumpkin). I wanted more and the Speedball fitted that perfectly.
