Now that I've used them a few times, I'm getting better at protecting the blade. They stay in place with a thick silicone rubber band that attaches the guards to the blades. Holds up well but requires two hands to pull on and off. I got the spring held ones - so much easier to use - you can only use one hand when getting in and out of the rink. The cheapest pair of skate shields for a few cents is light pink. But this color is no longer acceptable for my middle school age daughter. So I bought the next cheapest colors and got a pair in mint and another in neon pink. Edit: I walked in and my back fell off. I'm really not interested in adding more mods so I'll be switching to Rockerz Skate Guards next season. It's okay if you don't go to the rink, but. it's not really an option. I'm taking off a star because it's just nonsense. Also, it wasn't the straps that fell off, it was the protection, so considering it just won't hold up, it's not worth it. Depending on your skates it might be fine for you but definitely not for me.
