If you are thinking about buying an ultra-thin product, read this.

I am a metal engraver and bought this stone for polishing HSS and Carbide engravings. I use a variety of diamond bench stones so I'm fairly familiar with different grit sizes and I would say this stone is around 2200-2500 grit. This gives you a surgical polish, but not a mirror finish. So here's a little trick to help you save $50 on an "ultra thin" stone. Absolutely amazing... with one caveat

I want to start by saying that I really like this stone. For the price, this thing really beats its weight class. Ceramic cuts through metal quickly and doesn't bleed, and I no longer have to soak it like I do with Naniwa stones. The only problem with this stone is alignment. You can use stone from the box, but it's not perfectly flat. If you are purchasing this stone I would also recommend investing in a diamond stone (around 600 grains) from EZE Lap, DMT or Trend. Large stones suitable for sharpeners

These Spyderco stones are great. I have all three, medium, thin and ultra thin. I would say they are best for experienced sharpeners. Neither of them are particularly aggressive, so you might get frustrated trying to bring back a very dull knife. You will want to add something more aggressive to your kit.
