Description of πŸ”§ Enhanced SRAM Apex 1X11 Long Cage Rear Derailleur for Improved Performance

Long cage fits up to a 42 tooth Cog. X-horizontal design reduces shift force, eliminates ghost shifting and chain slap. Compatible with 10-speed and 11-speed SRAM 1x road systems. With cage lock technology, wheel removal and installation are easier than ever. Large upper pulley offset automatically adjusts chain gap.

I don't like the mechanism that holds it open

I don't like the mechanism that holds it open. I would prefer the "clutch" system. still somehow overrides the chain when shifting and sometimes knocks it off the front ring.

Great for 1x conversion

Used with 11-42 cassette on older Trek converted from road to 1x flat handlebars. Works flawlessly so far. handles a wide range with ease. Trigger switches work well with this switch.

Pros
  • Good to use

Used dirty item sold as new

This review does not reflect the quality of the SRAM Apex switch but rather the condition in which I received it. Apparently it was used. Display model or something like that. The item was dirty/dusty and the black anodizing on the temple threads has been removed.

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Some difficulties

Good performance for a low price

Used this to convert my CX bike to a 1x10. The description says 10 or 11 speed and seems to work fine. Just install the limiter bolts and connect to the 10 speed derailleur. Nice design and pretty smooth shifting. Not as crisp as my X1, but the Apex groupset is on the lower end of the line. Hardcore riders will probably want a better quality groupset, but for the rest that's fine.

Pros
  • Easy setup
Cons
  • Fairly ok, but...

Doesn't index/skip gears

I've been trying to get this shifter to shift properly for 3 months. I went to a professional bike mechanic and he was able to fix both, said there was one part missing, a wave ring. Still not working, still missing transfers. Apparently Revain sent me a used or defective rear derailleur, or Sram is junk. Will have to switch to Shimano, don't trust Sram. I have been cycling for 50 years and am very disappointed in this product.

Pros
  • Slim design

Installation is a pain

Instructions for this are completely wrong. According to the instructions, it is impossible to set the correct distance between the cassette and the upper idler pulley. Then adjusting the barrel to shift gears is weak at best. Switching to an all-new gearbox leaves a lot to be desired. I'm used to Shimano products, they just work on all levels. I think it's quite a junk product. It should also work well at a lower level. Generally speaking, cheaper bike parts mean heavier weight and less…

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • No instructions
