Works with Shimano Altus

This is a factory cassette for my Giant Escape fitness bike. It is Shimano Altus compatible and easy to install. My bike needed more than just a chain change, new gears shift like new. The price was very good.

Cons
  • Some issues

Perfect fit, good price

This SRAM 8 speed cassette was a perfect match for the old Shimano 105 setup. Gearing was perfect, no adjustment needed when changing cassette. Installation took minutes; Removing and installing the wheel took most of the time. If you want an 8-speed cassette, buy it and save 50% or more on supposedly more expensive components.

Seems to work

I changed the chain on my Trek Valencia hybrid bike and then noticed that the middle gears slipped while riding. A little research has shown that chains and cassettes can wear out over time, and if you change one frequently you will need to replace the other. I changed the like to like and voila! Add some new cables and brake pads and it's like a new bike again.

Pros
  • Parts and components
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging

Need to replace the cassette?

Although I've changed ratchets on older bikes, I've never changed modern cassettes. A rear wheel on a 15 year old Fuji aluminum wheel needed replacing when the spokes broke and the old cassette could not be removed, possibly due to invisible internal corrosion. This bike was bottomed during both Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans and Hurricane Sandy in New Jersey. Assembly was easy. Fine-tuning of the transfer is required as the old cartridge was not identical. The bike runs well when fully…

Pros
  • Cassettes and ratchets
Cons
  • Fragile
