I have a modest home recording studio on my wooden desk. Very easy setup: Dell laptop, Roland Quad Capture Interface, Sonar Pro and 3" M-Audio monitors. My problem was that the wood from the table absorbs the bass from the monitors, making it almost impossible to mix the bass lines. I've been seriously considering placing Soundrise speaker stands for my desk to hold a pair of JBL LSR 305's (bigger than my desk considering the thickness of the rack's steel frame).
