I have five other Sweetheart chisels, four from the 4 piece set and a 1/16". The Sweetheart 750 is not as perfect as other top chisels and has some machining marks that you may come across with your fingernail. Most require some dressing as well. 1 1/4" was no exception and required more work to smooth than any others I own as they had a large concave area that extended to the parallel edges of the chisel. Remember remove the paint first before you start grinding the chisel and the work will go

exactly how it should be.

I have read many reviews on this chisel complaining about the wrong size and loose grip. I ordered a 1/8" bit. When I received mine I held it up to a clear ruler and it is indeed 1/8" wide. I didn't use a precision caliper or anything, so it might be a bit big, but let's be serious. I clean up dovetail corners, don't make nuclear weapons. Close enough close enough. As for the loose handles, people complaining about it don't understand the purpose of the end piece. Part of the charm of end…

Pros
  • Hand tool
Cons
  • Available in black only

I ordered a 5/8 chisel to try. It comes painted, which is good for protecting against corrosion in storage, but it's awkward to clean. Before sharpening, I cleaned the back and the main bevel of the paint with acetone and sandpaper to avoid sticking my bench bars with paint compound. The back is almost perfectly flat but has small grooves from milling. I smoothed out the grooves. in just a few seconds on bench stones. It comes almost sharp but definitely benefits from some real sharpening…
