The mug itself is made out of the plastic you would get if you bought reusable summer beverage mugs at Walmart. You can't keep a hot cup of coffee sleeveless. I love the hard plastic lid. Be very careful when sealing the cup with a lid. Use a flat surface. The lid snaps firmly (which is good) but not lightly and can easily spill.
