My Chinese Craftsman caliper was badly cracked and had a cracked surface. I wanted to buy an American made device and I stopped there. The plastic frame doesn't bother me personally, but it really is. My only complaint is that the thumbwheel isn't as easy to use as almost every other caliper I've gotten my hands on.
