Okay, but not the epitome of sophistication.

Good enough depth gauge, simply made and strong enough to survive in my shop if I always remember to treat it with care. I'd like a more powerful gauge, but what's included might be enough for my needs.

Pros
  • Ruler for quick and direct measurements
Cons
  • Vanish

If it's not a starret then it's not square

I like this tool, in addition to the 4" double square and 6" Rule 4R these tools are becoming daily worn in a model and furniture store. The perpendicularity of the beam to the hull is very useful for checking square dovetails in wood and installing equipment etc.

Pros
  • Probe can be infinitely adjusted for size and locked in place with a knurled nut
Cons
  • Some bugs

Best Depth Gauge Best in testing, measuring and checking

I needed a depth gauge for filming. I've tried a few cheaper ones but have always been disappointed. The Starrett Depth Gauge is a high quality gauge. It has a wider blade, thinner ruler and a latch to set the desired depth. Starrett is known for its quality and this instrument is no exception.

Pros
  • Measuring range 0 to 6" and 1/64" resolution
Cons
  • Crumpled
