Precise marking is very important for woodworking

What can I say, this is a Starrett. Accurate marking is very important for woodworking. If you make a small mistake at the beginning, it will cause many problems later. For that reason, I felt it was worth giving up. Completely satisfied with the purchase.

Pros
  • Square blade easy to read, clear graduation
Cons
  • Weight

These Square

I was fed up with buying various combo angles that claimed to be square but weren't, or the equipment or materials used to make them, were always inferior, leading to inaccuracies and carelessness. . No more of this with Starrett. This square is square, period. The workmanship is impeccable and the center viewfinder is a nice plus. A very high quality tool.

Pros
  • Black Crumpled Finish Cast Iron Heads

100 uses in shop and personalization, heirloom quality

Perfection. The best tool for adjusting table saws, miter boxes, carpentry machines or anything with a stop or goniometer. 100 other uses. The fit and finish is heirloom quality. Easy to read English and metric scales, strong grip, centering finder is ideal for round lathe chucks. Wish list - wish this had a dedicated case with a desiccant pouch. I know the ruler is stainless steel but I don't know if it's 304 or 316 stainless steel because rust never goes away. Otherwise, this tool should last

Pros
  • Robust construction
Cons
  • Without automation

The moment you hold it in your hands you can feel the quality

The moment I took it out of the box and picked it up I felt the quality. This is a very well made tool and the best combo square I have ever owned. The blade is made of matte chrome that is nearly anti-reflective, making it easy to read. Most impressive, however, is the cast-iron square head. It's slightly larger than other square heads I have. The thumbscrew is a comfortable size for thumbs and is easy to tighten. Does not pinch when tightening. The threads are well processed, which means that

Meets its standards

When precision counts, it's the tool. In doing so, I have to consider a few problems that are easy to solve. When the item was delivered it was covered in oil - it would be nice if the oil was clean but the tool left dark marks on everything I've used it against. I grabbed a rag and wiped off all the oil and cleaned every nook and cranny. This of course left the piece sparkling clean (it could be used on my blanks), but it also made the piece extremely susceptible to rusting. The latter was…
