Ideal for light gear.

Ideal for keeping my patch panels further in the rack that would interfere with the front door once the cables are connected. However, the metal is a bit thin, so don't install heavier devices than short or fanless switches. If they were made of slightly thicker metal, then that would be normal for other devices.

Pros
  • Cost savings by installing equipment with different installation depths in the same rack

Installation was easy but required some wiggling and a bit of flexing.

I didn't even know these things existed until I came across a very long Cisco switch with an even longer detachable power supply. Even adjusting the brackets on the switch didn't leave me enough room to plug the device in later. On a whim I was looking for a rack extender and this one popped up. Dispatched a second day later and my switch was in place. At first I was confused how they would work until I got my hands on them. They're actually Z-shaped, so they curve inward to maintain the…

Cons

Suitable for stage boxes

Ideal for fixed depth rack cabinets. I used 4 (2 on each side) to support the weight. Most AV equipment does not compensate for front I/O connections. Can work both indoors and outdoors. It goes without saying, but make sure you've set the cage nuts properly before mounting anything.

Pros
  • Add flexibility to your rack by increasing or decreasing equipment depth by 4 inches
Cons
  • Infinitely slow

Sturdy but not enough space

I got this to slightly widen a component of the rear rack (I could rebuild the whole rack as it's adjustable in length, but didn't want to throw it away and redo it them the ones I made when ordering a wooden table top that I made for them). Works, but installation is a little cumbersome. Also, no matter how you attach it to the rack, it adds enough thickness that my component can't get out of the rear mounting bracket properly. It took a lot of fiddling to make it happen. As far as I know…
