Works good but runs HOT

I bought this to work with my M1 MacBook so I can use a second external display. It works great for that, but gets hot enough for that matter. This pushes a 24-inch Dell panel at 1920 x 1200 @ 60Hz. I brought it back for Pluggable's Thunderbolt Dock, which has USB-C PD and DisplayLink and runs much cooler (on the outside, at least). To be clear I have used StarTech products before and have never had an issue and the heat they generate may not be an issue but for a long term solution I just…

Working - 4K resolution

I work with CAD and needed a way to display 24x36 PDFs at near full size on screen instead of printing them to paper. So I bought a 43 inch 4K TV and hooked it up to my computer. As it turns out, my computer's resolution is insufficient to view pages without zooming, defeating the purpose of my purchase. I bought this little device and hooked it up to my computer. personal computer It was pretty much plug and play. I was surprised that this actually works, but it works, I have a 4K resolution…

Gave me the third monitor I needed for a Mac Air M1

I have a detachable dual monitor dock but wanted to add a third. I wasn't sure if it's possible on Mac Air with M1 or with this dock. The three display plug-in dock is out of stock so I decided to give it a try based on reviews that said three was a possibility. I also ordered a USB 3.0 extender hub to free up space on my USB drive. I plugged this into one of the new USB ports and. it worked! I almost couldn't believe how easy it was! Very thankful that the triple display docking station was…

Allows my M1 Macbook Air to use two external monitors

The M1 Macbook Air natively only supports one external display, but with this adapter I can use two (one connected to USB-C, one connected to this DisplayLink adapter ). The software works pretty well, monitors remember where they are etc. Aside from a simple one time software install, this thing is completely plug and play. Actually, I originally had an issue with the DisplayLink monitor not working. Refuse to wake up after falling asleep even after disconnecting and reconnecting the HDMI…

Works well, it's a secret for multiple displays on M1 Macbooks

Only 2 issues I have with newer M1 Macbooks: multiple Thunderbolt ports (2) and no multi-display support. The latter confuses me the most, but battery life and high performance don't excite me. However, this unit allows me to add a second external display to my setup, which I very much prefer. You have to install drivers, but the experience is a breeze. The only downside is that the Apple Watch's integration with the MacBook suffers while the display drivers are active. Something to do with…

Wow. I'm at a loss! Wonderful.

I bought this card thinking it was a USB 3.0 external graphics card that supports 4k so probably lots of jitter and good for basic web browsing, word processing but not video . I also never expected this to work on a 4k ultra wide display - here I am even more shocked. I can't believe I'm saying this on an ultra-wide 3440 x 1440 UHD display from an Intel i7 laptop. With 16GB of RAM already pushing 2 standard 4k displays, I was able to watch videos at full resolution with no noticeable lag. This

Dual 30 " displays on 11 " MacBook Air with OS X El Capitan 10.11.3

Current configuration: 11" MacBook Air (Mid 2013) with 1.7 GHz i7, 8 GB RAM, Intel HD 5000 Mac OS X 10.11. 32 x 30-inch displays (2560 x 1600) The 11-inch MacBook Air only has a Thunderbolt port, and I needed a USB video adapter to power two external 30-inch displays. Before that I was using StarTech USB 3.0 to DisplayPort (USB32DPPRO) and the second monitor worked fine but was a bit slow. I mainly used it to install unused windows. So I decided to try and upgrade to this adapter and I can say…

Cons
  • Vulgarity

First of all, it works. I have two monitors open and my M1 Air is closed on my desktop. Yes, you need additional hardware for this: I have an OWC hub. No I haven't tried experimenting to find the minimum hardware to make this work. I will not return it. This works well enough for me for what I need to do. But maybe you don't like it. Daniel Compton's post on DisplayLink and the M1 Mac has the details, but: The DisplayLink solution doesn't quite match the resolution, color management and…
