Micro SD works fine. Compact Flash is not for Mac. Thought it was a software or driver issue, went to the website and said no software update needed and that the Mac should read it. The Compact Flash card does not fit in either. The permissions seem wrong.

When this reader interacts with my Macbook Pro 15" 2016, it seems to work fine. However, it keeps crashing for no particular reason and immediately reconnects on its own. I disabled an option in my Macbook's settings to try to hibernate the drives. So I don't think my Macbook is doing anything that "turns off" the reader. The card reader worked well the first few times, but due to the design, the contacts bend slightly inwards. After a few uses it was no longer usable because the pins were bent on the inside.

This reader is nice and compact, but the USB-C connector is poorly made and after a few months of use it gave up connect to missing. Now I have to push and hold it into the connector very firmly to keep it connected, so I've since replaced it with a different reader.

I have had many of these readers over the years. They generally work as advertised and are good value for money. There's really nothing to write about. However, this reader has the best CF card slot I've seen, apart from the one that's part of the expensive professional audio gear.
