Good device for serial interface cards

I have a new computer with Windows 7. No RS232 ports of course, just USB and I have a GPS that I needed to connect. After looking for a Windows 7 compatible DBI to USB converter and looking at various cards, I settled on this one. Installation was free and Windows 7 already had the driver on the system (no need to use a driver CD). After the initial crash I changed the COM port from 2 to 1 and bingo it works great. The only point of criticism is the price for the "outdated” port.

Pros
  • Something about it

Easy to install, works great

For the most part I am very satisfied with the Startech products. I need a serial port on my desktop and decided to give this a try. It works fine without isseus. I use it with a serial printer and have had no problems with it falling out. It was very easy to install. It occupies one or two half-height slots (if you only need one serial port, you don't need to use the second slot). If you have a full-size slot, both serial ports use only one slot. There is a Molex power connector on the board…

Pros
  • Free for educational purposes
Cons
  • Newer model could have been chosen

Works perfectly! in Computer Components

Worked great for my application by connecting a serial output device to my PC. I now get the data I need without hesitation.

Problems with Windows 7 x64

I bought this card for use with a new computer with Windows 7 64-bit port after a while. After reinstalling the drivers everything was ok for a while, then the connection disappeared again. This happened with two different software packages, so I think the software is fine. To be fair - StarTech Tech Support was pretty responsive, but they thought the problem was me - maybe with their driver or Windows 7 x64. They say they have no problem with the driver in their lab, so maybe it's a windows…

Pros
  • Highest support and durability ratings from testers
Cons
  • Modern

Definitely a step forward from USB to serial.

I needed one of these to see if I could communicate via PCIe with my SC-88VL (via a computer port) and any other MIDI device I have (and for my Seek). get tight MIDI without spending over $1000 on a MADI adapter). It is set to PC-2 (38400) because it is a widely supported baud rate. It might be possible to upgrade to 31250 bps, but I've already made an effort to make a cable for the connector, especially since they're rare. Hairless MIDI + loopMIDI works instead of Roland's 32-bit serial MIDI…

  • Great for outdoor activities

Great option for connecting IoT and POS. Recommended

For most people, RS-232 communications have been marginalized with the normalization of internal modems and PS/2 mice. Many of the other edge cases were solved with USB, but a few odd anomalies remained (and remain to this day). A significant number of point-of-sale devices, network devices with a serial control port, legacy UPSs, and almost all IoT boards still use serial communication. My use case is IoT, so how did the StarTech.com Native RS232 Native RS232 PCI Express 2-Port Low Profile…

This item works great and has had no problems since installation. I wasn't the one who installed it, but it was installed on one of my old computers and had a major impact on the device's operation and performance. 4 stars. *Thank you for taking the time to read my review and if it in any way helped you make an informed decision about this product, please let me know by taking a moment to rate it.
