Works best when the correct drivers are installed.

I bought this item to protect my PC in the future and to expand my USB ports. I had a 10GB USB TYPE C Gen 2 Dock to connect to this device. Installing this card was easy and I installed the ASMedia drivers from the StarTech website according to the instructions. The card shows up in device manager and everything seems fine. However, when I tested CrystalDisk, the results weren't what I expected. I couldn't get more than 300MB read/write from a docked 512GB SSD. I have a trick up my sleeve to…

Works with PCI-e version 2.0 hosts.

I installed it on a Dell Optiplex 990 with Win7 32-bit. Dell had an empty PCI-e 4x slot required for this peripheral. This Optiplex model features PCI-e V2.0 on the motherboard that can deliver 5GB of power per port. Lupe, confirmed this and so easily downloaded the Win7 installation package offered on the StarTech website. The CD has not been used at all. Note that the ASMEDIA driver downloaded from the StarTech website will not start SETUP without detecting hardware. You may be used to…

Pros
  • finally bought
Cons
  • boring package

Yes, I had a perfectly working USB 3.0 card (that's 5 Gbps for those of you who are scoring points and a data transfer rate of 5 Gbps (625 MB/s) with 8b/10b -encoding, raw bandwidth is 500MB/s) and I took it out to put in this $52 StarTech card I bought here at Revain! So was it worth it? Just take a look. I previously bought an Orico (MSG-RC3?) which is an external enclosure for 2 mSATA drives in RAID0 with Type-C connection. I could NEVER get this to work because I believe that the power…

Blink and you will miss it!

I bought this on purpose to add 10 Gigabit USB 3.1 Type-C ports to my computer to maximize the performance of my new SanDisk Extreme 900 external SSD when I first plugged in the drive and tried to write data to it, I was sorely disappointed when I saw a transfer rate of around 30MB/s. It's ridiculously slow for an SSD. When I plugged the drive into my motherboard's 5Gb USB 3.0 ports, it got write speeds of around 300MB/s, so I knew the drive was fine. So I went to the StarTech website and…
