Took only 3 years

Maybe I'm expecting too much and I'm just being mean, but if I pay $45 for something like this, I expect it to last more than 3 years. It just suddenly stopped working. It didn't work great initially, but over the 3 years it's been working it's been a pretty consistent solution to our problem.

Pros
  • Everything is fine!
Cons
  • Not everyone is happy

A semi-finished design that works with some IRF remotes, but not all.

I have several remote controls that require full IRF frequency extension. Unfortunately, this semi-finished design will not work with remotes with signals on the lower end of the 20K to 56K spectrum. Too bad, because I've had my own extender for over two decades, each of which covers the entire range without any problems. There was no description of the limited frequency range of these devices so I included it assuming they cover the basics. It's still half done.

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!

No instructions but item works great

Bought for my dad. He has a cable box in the living room, but has two TVs, one in the living room and one in the bedroom, about 50 feet away. He needed a way to switch channels no matter what room he was in. It worked fine. While it lacks instructions, it's really easy to install. Place the device marked "receiver" in a room without a cable socket. Place the device marked "Senderโ€ in the cable box room. Plug them in, position the antennas and you can even go through walls and doors.

Worked for several days and then deteriorated

Worked as expected for the first few days. Then, over the next few days, he gradually began to keep his IR transmitter running constantly. The effect, of course, was that none of the remote controls worked because the room containing the audio/video equipment was flooded with IR. I tried covering the sending device but that didn't help. I then tried disabling the sending device, which didn't help either. It was definitely a fatal error in the receiver. Today he returns for an exchange. On theโ€ฆ

Distance between sending (in the kitchen) and receiving (in inches.

Distance between sending (in the kitchen) and receiving (in the living room where the TV is) is about 3 m. It's difficult In order to change channels FIOS Quantum TV, because the device constantly emits signals that it should not do, you have to quickly enter channel numbers, often repetitive numbers, to change channels while watching TV in the living room, you also have to repeat yourself ", until I cover the StarWreck with a hat. Then the FIOS box works as intended. Sure, the manufacturers of

Doesn't work for me with Xfinity X1 DVR

I've tried everything I can think of to try and get the devices working with the Xfinity X1 DVR. I tried placing the extender directly over the IR sensor on the front of the X! and also placed the receiver at different positions in front of the DVR. I've moved the transmitter to various positions, but I just couldn't get the remote to work through the system. Total distance was 60 to 70 feet, up half a flight of stairs in a two story house. Not in sight, but the wireless signal didn't have toโ€ฆ

Find the sweet spot and you'll be spot on

I use it in a one bedroom apartment with stucco walls (that block the signal) with my AT&T Uverse TV (Motorola set top box) . I've had them for about a week now and I've found that the real trick is where you place the receiver (which picks up the remote signal from the second room and radiates IR to the Uverse box). I need to place it directly in front of the cable box so that the "front" of the receiver faces the remote sensor on the cable box. However, this prevents me from using the remoteโ€ฆ

Long range, but tuning critical

The range of this product is excellent. A few I've run a remote controlled TiVo over 100 feet from the other side of my garage and across three walls. It is best to use the supplied extension cords directly on the devices you want to control. They are connected to the back of the transmitter unit. If you haven't used the extension probes and are using the transmitter alone without them, setup will be more difficult. It is absolutely critical to point the transmitter's IR facet directly at theโ€ฆ

Beware of the flickering red light in the receiver, range killer!

After looking at several other reviews that were disappointed with the range or simply said it wouldn't work with DirecTV or any other setup, I went ahead and took a chance and bought one anyway. I cannot stress enough how important your experience with this device can be, and it all depends on careful compliance. We're talking about a ranch in Texas. The fiber optic cable had already been run from the splitter that connected to the DirecTV satellite box in the bedroom of the house to a 30ft by
