Still sharp even after 2500 holes in solid wood!

I have been a professional carpenter for 50 years. This Steelex Plus bit is the best ground, balanced and sharpest bit I have ever used. Brad Point drill bits are specifically designed for drilling clean holes (no shavings) in wood. They do this by marking the outside edge of the hole before drilling it to the desired depth. This drill still worked effectively after drilling 2500 holes in hardwood. Bits designed primarily for drilling metal just don't do the job. Brad point drills are for wood…

Pros
  • Drill
Cons
  • Something else

Steelex Plus D2340 1/4 " HSS Brad Point Wood Drill Bit

under $20-25 for BF. . So when I needed a dowel bit I couldn't find anything better than "Steelex Plus" - theirs high quality drill bits are made in Austria, this 3/8" bit is made in China but it cuts just as well as all Steelex bits I have drilled literally thousands of holes and ALL my Steelex bits drill at least 500 holes in mostly hardwoods like Hickory, Purple Heart, and even Bloodwood (that's three times harder than Red Oak). Extra 1/16" for the same reason, when drilling in hardwood…

Pros
  • Power Tool Parts & Accessories
Cons
  • Long Lead Time
