Fun but a bit unwieldy

We got this for my son's 6th birthday because he LOVEs building forts and constructing things in general. Though the kids have taken it out and had fun with it, we've noticed several challenges with the set.One is that because all the sticks are the same length, you are limited in what you can assemble. Only particular shapes -- like squares and triangles of a specific size -- work well. My kids like to get creative and they've had trouble making the things they want.Another challenge has been…

Pros
  • Flexible STEM Fun for Boys&Girls
Cons
  • Some kids may become bored with the set once they build all the structures.

For size comparison and dimensions see my review.

Overall, its pretty good. I took pictures cuz i think the main thing parents need to know is constructed size. so, in the first picture, all but one ball and three rods is used and my size 7/8 9yr old boy sitting inside plus straight view with average interior door for comparison. The second is my 9yr old and his size 8/10 11 yr old brother crammed in together with one queen size sheet barely covering with about 8 inches exposed at bottom of one end. Both kids can sit in there together but…

Pros
  • Put a sheet over it became his little house.
Cons
  • the idea is good but not as sturdy as they make it sound

Might work for you, didn't work for me

tl:dr - the balls are unnecessarily dense and poorly machined, the tubes have a raw edge that can (and did) cause injury. Connections are sometimes too tight, sometimes too sloppy. Building isn't super intuitive and takes some thinking (not a bad thing!)I got two 85 piece sets on sale over Black Friday and we opened them on Christmas Eve. My four kids love to build and love blanket forts, so this was going to be a hit unless it was totally nonfunctional. They had a (mostly) great time, but…

Pros
  • My 9 yr old Loves building forts out of it!!!
Cons
  • Too hard for adult to disassemble.

Not quite what I expected

My daughter loves to make tents/ forts. So I thought this would be the perfect Christmas gift. We made a very basic Fort with it a day or so after Christmas. The fort fell apart pretty easily and we haven't really assembled another fort yet. My daughter is 5 almost 6 and she definitely would not be able to do this by herself. Needed sub strike to get the pieces to stay together.

Pros
  • 15.94 x 12.83 x 2.2 inches
Cons
  • The set does not come with storage, which may make it difficult to keep the pieces organized.

Really great gift for kids.

Short version: if your kid likes to build forts, he/she will love this.I remember being a kid and building forts out of everything we could find in the house- chairs, blankets, books, what have you. My siblings and I would've played with this SO often. We loved forts.I got this for my 4yr cousin, and we got to build stuff with him. I got the 120 piece one, and my only wish is that there were more pieces. Or maybe I would just get a second one.The pieces were surprisingly really sturdy. And we…

Pros
  • Sports & Outdoor Play
Cons
  • Not suitable for outdoor use, which may be limiting for some children.

Overall great value and the kids love it!

I really love this product. What a great idea to create new ways for the kids to do something they love, building forts (especially when we are inside so much these days!) I really like all the different configuration options, which means the kids can play for long periods of time by creating different structures. I like that the materials are lightweight and even my three year old can get in on the building. That said, the downside is that the structures can be a bit wobbly, but we have found…

Pros
  • Trusted Obuby Kids Fort Building Kit Quality
Cons
  • The instructions can be difficult to follow, especially for younger children.

Creat, build design - great family projects!

We got together with a 6,8 and 10 yr old, to build the fort. We picked a fort diagram then I called out the balls and stick formation. Once the kids got going, they picked up on it real quick, we assembled the model and they thoroughly enjoyed it. With the extra pieces, we decided to re-engineer the pieces for maximum capacity. The kids also came up with ideas for doorways to reduce interference. Each fort diagram went up quick and was easy to assemble. The fort kit was a gift for the six year…

Pros
  • Easy to Build&Durable
Cons
  • The product may not offer long-term learning opportunities.

A fun kit to tinker around with

We bought this set to tinker around outside in the yard with the grandkids. The kit comes with a number of rods (basically like large straws only sturdier) and two types of colored balls that have pre-drilled holes in them. From this you can construct various shapes. While the box is marked for ages 5+, (only speaking from our personal experience here), there were two things that made it a bit difficult for the youngsters to assemble it themselves. The rods are a very tight fit into the holes…

Pros
  • The STEM Building Kit For Kids Ages 5-12 offers a fun and educational way for children to enhance their problem-solving and critical-thinking skills, while also encouraging their creativity and imagination
Cons
  • Some of the pieces may be too small for younger children to handle safely.

Kids love it! best in my review

After months using it, I can tell that this set is sturdy and will last. My daughters love making a castle, an igloo, a tunnel, a pirate ship or whatever they can imagine. They are very young so I have to help, but we have lots of fun together. Only thing I want to notice is that for more advance shapes, not rectangles, you have to carefully align the connecting balls and this is not that easy to figure out. A better visu

Pros
  • 5 years and up
Cons
  • The product may be too gender-specific, limiting appeal to a particular audience.

Great idea, works exactly as described

This is a great toy for imaginative play. I think it's perfect for mixed ages- the olders help assemble and think geometrically, the Youngers give ideas and help. Small kids (4-7) can do this too, but would need adult or older kid help to get the hang of it. We use a light weight parachute sheet to drape over it for "forts". It is not strong enough to support blankets. 1 Polyester sheet might be ok.

Pros
  • Construction Fort Building Kit
Cons
  • The product may not be durable enough for frequent use.

Fun but difficult - my new review

The kids were so excited and they did love The end result of the fort. It is extremely difficult to put together I wanted to give up building it. My brother has autism and he is nine years old. He is extremely smart and can see things before I figure them out. When trying to build the fort he became extremely frustrated and upset. Then we worked together and figured it out. We had so much fun playing in the tent. This product isn’t just putting sticks together it’s very mind bending. If you…

Pros
  • With the Ultimate Forts Builder Gift Set, children can construct a variety of different fort designs, fostering a sense of accomplishment and pride in their creations
Cons
  • The product may not appeal to children who prefer creative play over structured building.

Will Do As Advertised

My daughter recently got into fort building. This mostly involves stealing all our blankets and pillows and demanding help to make it all structurally sound. The thing is, we like our pillows, chairs, and other potential support beams for their original purpose, so my wife sent me a link to this building kit.The packaging advises 5+, and this makes sense, because my four year old seemed less interested in building a fort than in having a fort built for her, so the actually building part of the…

Pros
  • Unisex-child
Cons
  • Some of the pieces may not fit together as smoothly as expected.

SERIOUSLY! Recommend for Hours of Quarantine Fun

OK! I've been looking for something to keep this little guy off the devices. This set is well worth it, just like having a giant set of Tinker Toys! I had Tinker Toys as a kid and have memories of building all different kinds of creations. With a little adult supervision, you can build a bunch of fort type creations to foster hours of imaginative playtime. This is not only fun, it's a tool to enable creative thinking. We can all be engineers while at the same time take part in the actual build…

Pros
  • Looks good to me and my kid is enjoy building. The rod is little flexible but not breakable
Cons
  • Not suitable for children under 5 years of age.

Fantastic, But Not a Big Enough Set

My daughter loves this fort kit. It’s easy to snap the sticks and the orbs together and make different structures. I’m taking away one star because you really need two sets to put together a good, complete structure. So, buy more than one, or a bigger set!

Pros
  • 4.91 pounds
Cons
  • It requires adult supervision, especially for younger children.

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Beyond sturdy, which means not easy

out of all the options, I chose the sturdiest, so that our kindergardner can build really good structures. The flipside of that is that it’s not easy for young hands. Make sure your kids have the strength to take it apart and put the pieces together.

Pros
  • This kit promotes hands-on learning, allowing kids to learn about math, engineering, and physics through interactive building exercises
Cons
  • Some of the pieces may be too fragile for rough play.

Giant tinker toys good for me

Grandson loved these, he made a tent out of these using 1.00 plastic table clothes and clothes pins. Lots of fun That's my review!

Pros
  • The STEM Building Kit is perfect for both boys and girls, making it an inclusive gift option for children of all genders
Cons
  • The set may not have enough variety to keep kids engaged for extended periods.
