fake / fake. That does not work.

Reading the firmware returns an unknown value and the card barely works. I bought a real RC522 board from a local shop, hooked it up to my Uno and it works fine. Some cards from this buyer may be good, but the one I received is definitely not.

Works well good for computers and accessories

This isn't the cheapest RFID reader but it has the connectors already soldered in and is perfect for a breadboard. Also, this is one of the few readers that's from a fairly reputable company, as many of the other readers I looked at were from obscure Chinese companies.

Pros
  • New
Cons
  • Could have chosen a newer model

The card is almost unusable. The range of the key fob is ok.

I'm usually forgiving of cheap sensors that perform a little worse than expected. Also, I always check my wiring. So if I want the card to be read I basically have to rub it against the sensor, sometimes on that side…. sometimes from the other side... wave it like a magic wand, back and forth.... step back, step forward, wait... rub again... Yes, I'll send it back. I didn't have the patience this time. In any case, the key fob is read normally. This is very bad.

Pros
  • Great for outdoor activities
Cons
  • Not sure

They sent two different sensors

I was planning to use 4 sensors with Arduino with SPI interface. I tried the blue sensors and they failed intermittently and had poor range. Then I tried the red one from Sunfounder and it worked and had more range. I ordered 8 more of them but mixed some blues with reds. The blue ones were in a box that looked the same but didn't have the same ink and cardstock colors - they looked like fakes to me. They also had slightly different components and no logo was printed on the board. So I sent the

Raspberry Pi compatible

This product is surprisingly compatible with Raspberry Pi. I had some starting problems but I got over them. The pins to and from the rpi are as follows: VCC - pin 1, 3.3 volt RST - pin 22, GPIO25GND - pins 6, 9, 14, 20 or 25, personally I have pin 6MISO - pin 21, GPIO9MOSI - pin 19 used, GPIO10SCK- pin 23, GPIO11NSS- pin 24, GPIO7IRQ- Don't Attach to rpi I used: http://bsd.ee/hadara/blog/?p=1017&cpage=1#comment-845 and it was extremely helpful. Hope this helps others: I'm giving this a 3.5…
