Great for food or soil!

I got her to check the soil temperature because I like to know when it's warm enough to plant. My meat thermometer broke in the meantime and I ordered several of these, so I now have a new food thermometer and a soil thermometer. Win, win!

Very efficient for the price. I have calibrated each.

Very inexpensive. I calibrated each block with a mercury thermometer and cups of water (ice water, room temperature, and 140 degrees) before using them. The calibration process is simple. My 5-star rating affects the price; If they were more expensive I would deduct a star because I would have to make small changes.

Pros
  • Robust design
Cons
  • No instructions

The price is great and I would give five stars if I could.

Great price and I would give it five stars if it was properly calibrated. for 212 degrees. None of them provided the correct evidence. And no two matched. I adjusted them (easy to do) so they are all calibrated correctly now.

Pros
  • Everything is fine!
Cons
  • Only available in black

Great little unit

Although some reviews indicated that the unit needed recalibration I did not have this issue. I compared the weather temperature on my Samsung Android phone to the readings (on 3 separate occasions) and both readings matched almost exactly. I like that it takes very little time to get a reading and that it measures from hot to cold and vice versa almost instantly. At this price you can't get a better deal.

Pros
  • Very good price
Cons
  • Upgradeable

Very consistent readings between 6 of them. Great product and value.

I don't know if the absolute calibration is accurate, but the relative calibration is great over a wide range! I bought 6 of these and all 6 show the same temperature in the AC floor register: 55F and 105F in a glass of hot water. I bought the same one 10 years ago for 5x the price. The same mfg as far as I can judge. Well done. The pocket clip is the same.

Pros
  • Easy to use
Cons

Not very accurate, but ok for the price.

This thing reads about 5 degrees warmer than my other 2 thermometers. If the 5 degree tolerance is right for your needs then this is a good buy for its price. I got mine for less than $2 I think. If you want accurate readings, I don't know if this product is for you. I put this thermometer in a cup with ice and some water. the temperature of the ice is 32 degrees, this thermometer showed 35 degrees no matter how much ice i put in it.

Pros
  • Excellent design
Cons
  • Alright

Cheap and accurate thermometer

Cheap and accurate thermometer. It fits easily into the HVAC registers to provide an outlet air reading. I also used it in the car out of curiosity about how cold my AC was. Finally, when not being used for something else, it sits in a water bottle in my fridge to give an idea of the item's actual temperature. Sometimes you have a power outage and this is the best way to get accurate readings in my opinion. I took an empty water bottle, drilled a small hole in the lid and inserted it into the…

Pros
  • Ideal for a small home
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for the elderly

Calibrating is pretty easy, but

This thermometer arrived quickly and appears to be of good quality. The only downside is that it is not calibrated from the factory. It's fairly easy to calibrate, but you'll need to compare it to another known accurate thermometer to do so. To adjust, you will need a 10mm open-end wrench, ring end, or small adjustable wrench. You can also use good quality pliers if you are careful. To calibrate, hold the nut in the base of the dial with a wrench and gently rotate the dial until it reads the…

Good enough to work in a dark rec room at a good price.

We are setting up a hobbyist dark lab and I have used it to make standard solutions at around 100F. Originally I was going to give this one 2 stars because it showed 40F degrees in ice water. But then I read the answer to Dad's sizing question and just calibrated it at freezing temperature. However, calibrating a linear scale requires two measurements - if this thermometer is linear in the area of the dial, a big 'if'. For the second reading, I took a trustworthy (+/- a few degrees over range)…
