We are setting up a hobbyist dark lab and I have used it to make standard solutions at around 100F. Originally I was going to give this one 2 stars because it showed 40F degrees in ice water. But then I read the answer to Dad's sizing question and just calibrated it at freezing temperature. However, calibrating a linear scale requires two measurements - if this thermometer is linear in the area of the dial, a big 'if'. For the second reading, I took a trustworthy (+/- a few degrees over range) kitchen thermometer, which correctly read 32F in ice water. I put them both in warm water. A trustworthy thermometer read 118 and this one read about 110. So I readjusted to split the difference, assuming it would be about 3 degrees higher at the bottom and 3 degrees lower at the top. I can work with it. The attached photos show the initial and intermediate stages of calibration. Luckily I got this at Revain for a surprisingly low price. So, combining reasonable accuracy with a low price, I'm giving it four stars.
