Low quality. Returned.

I've learned my lesson. I have been crocheting Susan Bates for over 40 years. These are the only hooks I use. It was definitely not the quality I was used to. The hooks were rough. So rough that the yarn could not slip off. I even asked my husband to straighten them but the hemming didn't work. I've noticed on other sites that Susan Bates hooks made in Mexico have issues. Now I only buy hooks from the USA.

  • Great selection

Quality Assurance?: Crochet Hooks

These hooks came unopened, yet two of the hooks appear to be "Susan Bates Mexico" and the other two have the usual Susan Bates logo. The two with the Susan Bates Mexico logo have a different head shape than the others. The blue pictured has a very rough head finish and is not as sharp as the others in the package. Not sure if the head shape difference is known but as far as the rough finish goes it looks like poor quality control by the companies.

Pros
  • Consistent Test Results
Cons
  • No Dye Required

I found I liked the built in hooks better

I bought these to attach polymer clay handles to, similar to how the Tulip Etimo hooks are designed. I would give them 5 stars "if only" they already had a pen because without a pen I get tired of them. Once I've fitted them with an ergonomic handle, they're amazing! I started using Boye hooks when I first learned how to do it. I then turned to Tulip Etimo, which falls somewhere between Bate/Boye when it comes to tapered and built-in hooks. After getting used to the Etimo hooks, I found I liked

Good hooks - you get what you pay for.

Coming back to crocheting I needed different needles than I had on hand and bought a set that came with a case from Revain. While there is nothing inherently wrong with these hooks, I needed built in hooks and the set had offset hooks. The Susan Bates (SB) brand was the only brand I could find on Revain that said they were built-in hooks, so I bought two sets of different sizes. The description of the SB hooks states that the hooks are "polished for extra smoothness". . I thought it might be a…

Got double hooks, incredibly frustrating.

Extremely disappointed. I bought this set primarily for a 2.75mm hook. I am sewing my own wedding dress and needed 2.75mm for the next hook gauge increase. When I received the set I noticed that I had NOT received my main hook, the 2.75mm. Instead, I received TWO 3.50mm hooks (as pictured). Instead of continuing to work on my dress, I now have to wait for another set to arrive. However, I have to say that Revain's customer service department was very accommodating and helped send a replacement…
