I bought this because I wanted to protect my iPad when I've moved it away from the magic keyboard where it lives most of the time. It's hard plastic, with no overlays. But there aren't many other devices on the market that can close the iPad, power the keyboard, and use the keyboard as a lid to close it. It does everything. Update: One of the contact pins fell out after a little over a month of slow use. Just got a replacement. This is a little improved over the original. less sharp edges. The bottom of the pen holder is better reinforced. All in all, a decent case that protects the back from scratches and makes it easier to hold the iPad when docked with the Apple Pencil.
