Do not purchase until you have investigated the HD issue.

Please note that Synology has switched to a model that requires you to purchase their branded hard drives or a very small selection of third-party drives in the compatibility list (8TB max) if you wish full capabilities of your NAS. I installed 14TB Seagate EXOS drives and they were UNTESTED. I contacted Synology Support and they told me to switch drives as they are not listed. I believe that in the UNCHECKED state, the NAS does not read or report the status of the drive, which may result in…

As another reviewer noted, if you're buying this newer model, get the expensive hard drive model. That means you should probably look for another brand if you don't want to overpay.
