First of all. To mute, hold down the button. Second, the whole container gets hot, very hot after about 2 minutes. So if you want to grind up a whole bag of dried herbs, forget about that! I use this little bad boy a lot. It grinds my coffee beans well, although it will take a while if you want to grind a finer espresso. I managed to grind some wheat berries to make my own flour but haven't done it yet. I dehydrate foods and turn them into smoothie powder, tomatoes to easily make my own tomato paste, or potatoes to thicken soups or make my own instant mashed potatoes.
