Must be calibrated before use, not very accurate even then!

Not impressed. I bought 8 of these to put in hot and cold pots. I knew they needed to be calibrated before use, so I used a boiling pot of water and my insanely accurate Thermapen to set the temperature on them. A few were gone! 1 showed 120°F at room temperature. Even after hot temperature calibration, many of the 8 show different temperatures at room temperature and in ice water. painful to use as an instant read thermometer. To calibrate, use pliers to take the hex head on the stem under the

Given how often they are mistakenly bent in the chute,

Considering how often they accidentally get damaged in the garbage chute, a good, cheap and functional food thermos is preferable. I've worked in kitchens for decades and this works flawlessly (instant battery reading is a waste of money IMO). For those of you unfamiliar with these thermometers, make sure to calibrate them in a cup of crushed ice when they are new and periodically thereafter. It then turned to steam when placed in boiling water, which then fogged up the dial and obscured the temperature gauge.

PERFECT MEAT THERMOMETER

After a lifetime of grilling steaks, I decided to try the cast iron griddle. Only thing is I had no idea when to fillet 1 inch thick and was sure I didn't want to cut it. THE TAYLOR 3513 PRECISE MEAT THERMOMETER IS THE PERFECT TOOL FOR COOKING STEAK. I used BETTY CROCKER's instructions for MEDIUM RARE and lowered the heat to 120°. As Betty described, the meat continued to cook to an internal temperature of 140°C while I finished preparing the side dishes and seasonings. Using a TAYLOR…
