appears to be at least 2 to 3 inches from the probe.

Bought this thermometer for frying in a large pot. It has one major downside: it seems like the sensor needs to be submerged at least 2-3 inches to get an accurate oil temp reading. However, this amount of oil is not required for frying, so the usefulness of this thermometer is limited. You can tilt the pan and stir in the oil to get a quick reading, but that doesn't help much if you want to keep the oil at a constant temperature while you're busy cooking.

Pros
  • Packed in a single carton.
Cons
  • Lots of things

Pros
  • Temperature range from 50° to 550°F in 5°F increments.
Cons
  • Infinitely sluggish

useful for most needs

It works quite well. I had to do a cook test and adjust it when I first unboxed it. It allows you to calibrate it, which is nice. If you use needle nose pliers to hold the small nut at the bottom and turn the body of the thermometer, you can calibrate it to the temperature of the boiling water. My biggest complaint is that the latch that holds it to the side of the pot doesn't snap very well. I end up leaning the latch against the handle of the pan for better stability. I end up constantly…

Pros
  • 8" stainless steel bar with pallet clamp.
Cons
  • Doubtful
