Ironically, the time for each timer changes depending on which way it's turned. Green and white sand are within seconds of each other and no more than 5 seconds from their 3 or 4 minute marks, but brown sand is nearly 30 seconds in one direction and accurate in the other. I've just received it, so I can't guarantee durability. It seems to be built pretty solid. It met my needs, but don't expect anything too specific. For a cheap timer, it works well and looks good.

I've been using it for three months and I'm still happy with it. I only gave it four stars as I had a weird case where the 4 minute timer got stuck and didn't expire. I've only docked it to one star, as the 3 and 5 minute timers are fine it's pretty easy not to lose too much of the missing 4 minute time. Otherwise it's perfect for me. 3 minutes is ideal for a medium-strong cup of tea. 4 is good for my coffee in a coffeepot and 5 is good for a good cup of strong tea. I don't need an alarm clock…

While this is a perfect tea clock, it is prone to defects. The timer itself has the right combination: 3 minutes for white and green; 4 minutes for herbs, black and oolong; 5 minutes for Pu Erh. I can't find another tea clock with such an accurate sequence, so it's worth the price. However, keep a close eye on the product for the first 30 days and use it often - make sure the sand doesn't get stuck during the cycle. The primary purpose of an hourglass is precision. I was curious how accurate the hourglass was and I measured its time several times. The accuracy of a 3 minute glass is around 2-3 seconds (ending consistently at around 2:58 or so). A 5 minute glass is accurate to about 3-5 seconds (continuously ends at about 4:56 or so).
