The product works fine. However, the driver needs

Product works well. However, the driver must be updated from another unnamed source. Also, the driver is built into the OS X startup files even when no USB device is connected. It is not known if future updates will be available? The other part of this scenario is that you may need to participate in changing some COM port addresses. This is because other installed software uses COM ports and returned ERROR CODE showing COM port not found. Buyers be careful you must.

Pros
  • Delivery was very fast
Cons
  • Poor instructions

Great for terminal server in cisco lab

Works great on a Dell Optiplex 960 SFF with linux kernel 3.2.0-4-amd64 acting as the terminal server for my cisco lab environment. I can access the console ports of all four devices (2 Cisco switches and 2 Cisco routers) connected to this device.

Pros
  • even old
Cons
  • dented

Easy to use once you figure out which port is which

I've used this adapter cable on both Windows 7 and Windows 10 and it works great on both systems. Windows picked up the device on both systems, I didn't have to use the supplied floppy disk to download the drivers. The build quality of the cable appears to be good and the plastic used for the connectors is solid. My only problem with this adapter is that the COM port number changes every time I plug the USB into the PC. There are small numbered labels on the serial connectors, but these are of…

Here is the detailed (Linux) driver/device information

doesn't work for me. I bought one of these to use in an RPi based test unit and haven't had any issues so far. I didn't need a driver disk at all - it worked out of the box on Debian Linux (with gasps and stretches). lsusb outputs the following: Bus 003 Device 012: ID 0403:6001 Future Technology Devices International, Ltd FT232 USB-Serial (UART) ICBus 003 Device 011: ID 0403:6001 Future Technology Devices International, Ltd FT232 USB-Serial (UART) ICBus 003 device 010: ID 0403:6001 Future…

Great for technical multitasking on Windows 10 and 7. Linux too

Bought for my tech team to use with laptops. Works great on Windows 10 and 7, seems to work great on CentOS and Redhat Linux too. We've worked hard testing EMC, NetApp, and Cisco hardware with serial ports, and it's great and easy to slip into a laptop bag. You can multitask more easily by running multiple serial connections to multiple systems using Putty or Hyperterminal etc. I advise you to determine which comport is assigned to each serial connection head in Device Manager as it is…

Pros
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • Big and bulky
