Good sound good quality

This radio has very good sensitivity and selectivity for its price. The backlighting on the dial is particularly good as I usually use the radio in the dark, but the band selector isn't backlit so I can't see which band you're on without looking. The AM and FM bands are far to the left so you can feel the click, but when you switch between the SW bands it's hard to tell which band you're on in the dark. The volume control on the side is good and I didn't think I'd like it, but it feels and…

This could easily be your everyday radio.

Tired of the digital world, back to the familiar analog tuner. The R9700DX does not disappoint and has become one of my favorite analogue radios. My video review of this radio is on YouTube. Features I like about this radio: * The speaker sound is really good. * FM reception is stable. * AM reception is excellent. * SW reception is decent. * External VHF/SW antenna socket. * FM Stereo! * Large display for customization. * Illuminated dial, looks very good in the dark. * Simple design and…

Pretty powerful with lots of extra features

Ever since I was a little boy I've been an avid shortwave radio enthusiast, listening to radio stations from all over the world. For the past 15 years I've had a small wearable device made by a competitor, but I finally decided to treat myself and upgrade it. The R9700DX was indeed an upgrade. First, my previous model was battery only and used one of those 9V block batteries. The R9700DX can be used with either AA batteries or drain power. Second, this radio has a lot more power than my…

(TUNING CAPACITOR FAILURE)

(UPDATE) -- The tuning capacitor has failed. Now it has become very difficult to use on the AM and HF bands as the tuning capacitor seems to be defective. Based on previous experience of faulty Tecsun products, I will not cause myself any inconvenience even if I try to deal with their rude and dishonest customer service. Most portable so-called "analog" radios, I think 99% or more, are now DSPs. (Digital Signal Processing) and this causes tuning problems for the AM and HF bands. The DSP uses…

Good radio but no QC

So after getting 3 separate radios and finally getting one that works properly here is my opinion. First, I like the style and construction of the radio. If you like "Old School New Tech" then this will definitely satisfy you. The FM and AM/AM bands are very sensitive and the DX function works quite well and picks up a lot of weak stations. Looking forward to trying AM with a loop antenna. I haven't had much luck catching many SW channels, but that's probably due to bad weather lately. The…

This is a quality radio!

I've tried a few of these (ie small portable AM/FM/SW) radios. When I saw it was listed on Revain I thought what the heck if it doesn't meet the $50 value standard I can always return it for a refund. It's a keeper! I've been an AM broadcaster, both local and DX, and shortwave listener for about 70 years, so I'm speaking from experience. It looks like an analog radio and it's not as easy to read the frequency of the station you're listening to as it is with a digital radio, but you'll get used…

Pros
  • Worth the money
Cons
  • Slightly dented

One of the best travel radios

I have had this radio for 3 years now. I've been an avid SW listener for 30 years. I'm not a radio amateur, but I was a MURS and Hurricane NET operator in the military, so I know a bit about HF. I'm not going to compare this to ICOM or Drake Ham Rig. I will review its merits over other consumer receivers. I own or own Sangean 803A, 818, Grundig S750, S350, DEGEN 1102, 1103, WRX911. Firstly, if you want to hear service signals, skip this as its SW segments only cover the SW broadcast bands…
