I'm very glad they came with the lids I chose. They are for my elderly parents who can accidentally tip things over. So if we close the roof well, it works well to prevent spillage. We use stainless steel straws that are the perfect size and have large handles for arthritis hands. One complaint is that the tea stains the plastic but other than that they work well with hot and cold drinks and we can see how much my dad drinks.

These mugs are so good I keep ordering more. My father has dementia with Lewy bodies and can no longer use ordinary glasses or cups. That's all I currently use for his drinks, including his morning coffee. If he's having a particularly shaky day I switch to one of the Tervis straw lids which I ordered separately and they are virtually leak proof. They've been so helpful and I no longer have to overdrive my dad every time he drinks for fear he might hurt himself.

At the same time, the mug looks nice, you can put it in the microwave and clean it in the dishwasher. Heat retention can be measured in minutes, and that's not enough. The wide, flat, slanted lid makes drinking from this mug more like trying to drink from a wide, flat bowl than a coffee mug. Often this results in the user carrying the drink they were trying to drink. I'm looking for a better designed replacement.

I bought two cups. Both were accidentally thrown off the tables, one with the lid closed, the other open. Hardly a drop escaped when the lid was closed. When opened it spilled some coffee on the floor before I could pick it up, but it was nice that a full cup of coffee didn't spill all over the floor or hit all the furniture. I like the cup size, comfortable to hold. The mug takes some getting used to, my nose touches the lid right where the tiny opening is and it partially blocks the flow of the drink. The pophole lid is annoying and flimsy, and it takes two hands to drink from a mug when the lid is closed, and also leaks when it's closed. I bought two mugs based on my previous experience with Tervis products, but I use these mugs almost exclusively for coffee and add cream to my coffee. There was a stain on both cups. I'll admit I don't wash them after every use, but I do rinse them. The stain turns the transparent cup opaque and a light brown color. I expected more from a brand at a reasonable price? I expected the mug to keep my coffee hot or my tea cold for a long time, and in that regard it fell short of my expectations. In fact, my coffee only stayed warm a little longer than in a regular glass or ceramic mug.
