Tame the FX-9590 and completely destroy the competition!

I recently had to repair my radiator, which gave me the opportunity to meet liquid metal for the first time and pit two heavyweights of the liquid metal world against one another. These two are Liquid Pro by Grizzly Conductonaut and Coollaboratories. My test bed: CPU: AMD FX-9590 is the latest of the avant-garde and the famous oven that instantly heats up to over 70 degrees Celsius and shuts down the PC without proper cooling. Motherboard: Asus Crosshair V. Formula-Z Cooling: Corsair - H115i…

Unfortunately not for GPUs.

I have 2 old Radeon RX 580 for Sapphire running up to 75 degrees at 100 percent load. I decided that since they are almost 4 years old they need a new paste and I wanted to try Liquid Metal to give it that famous drop of 10C or less. Unfortunately it isn't. After applying, I ran these 2 cards at 100 percent load for almost 3 hours, and the pace remains the same as stock. I got it right by applying a thin coat to the ihs and radiator. Still no noticeable difference. The liquid metal poses a…

Works as expected, but not without risk.

Works as expected, used on a laptop to reduce fan noise by lowering the temperature, there was a big improvement. Gallium than copper, which can form an alloy with gallium and "dry out" (usually over a long period of time, at least many months). Make sure your radiator is nickel plated to reduce this effect, but if you plan to use liquid metal as a long term solution (many years) I would consider carefully backing up your temperatures from time to time with a reproducible reference monitor, and

Crazy temperature swings but application is key

I bought the kit with extra alcohol wipes and extra 3 black cotton swabs because it was the only version of coductonaut that could ship same day for free. Otherwise I would buy the regular 1G or 5G version. The first CPU I used this on was a 6700k and the temps went down by an insane margin that makes the 20c difference you read about seem conservative. Overclocked to 4.8GHz with the old H100 at 1.385V LLC6, the 6700k didn't go above 55-60C with the Prime 95 mix, while before using the same…

Breathing new life into a 3.5 year old laptop

I purchased an Alienware 15R3 laptop in November 2017. This particular Alienware model is notorious for its notoriously poor thermal performance. I first reglued it with Kryonaut from Thermal Grizzly in the summer of 2019. This slightly improved the thermal efficiency. Since autumn 2020, however, the GPU temperature has gone through the roof. When I run the Kombuster stress test, it can go from 43°C idle to 90°C in a maximum of 50 seconds. It's time for a line-up change again and this time I…
