Haven't taken them to the beach yet so can't comment on durability. I can say they are true to size. I assume they stretch a bit when wet. I bought them to wear for my kids in the Bahamas. This allows them to walk between the resorts and to the beach and water park without worrying about flip flops, water park briefs or hot sand on the beach. It's great! I bought them specifically for a day at the water park. I bought one for my little one who is almost 2 years old and wears the Stride Rite brand size 6. I bought size 6-7. They fit great! 1 or 2 times I had to raise my back (as seen in the photo) but I didn't mind.
