Description of TotalView

TotalView is a Network Monitoring & Management system that uses automation to monitor every switch, router, server, firewall, and AP in the environment, as well as deep visibility into every interface including performance, 19 different error counters, QoS, STP, PoE, and connectedness. This information is analyzed by the included heuristics engine to produce plain-English diagnostics to problems detected on the network. This makes root-cause troubleshooting of problems easy because you know everything your network equipment knows about faults, misconfigurations, and resource limitations. Setup and autoconfiguration is far faster than other solutions, typically 12 minutes for most environments. Features include license-unlimited server/service/CPU/RAM monitoring, VoIP/UC troubleshooting, Network diagramming, path mapping, port mapping, IPAM, NetFlow, Call Simulation, Work-from-home troubleshooting, Security Operations Monitoring, Security SOAR event response, MIB Browser, and Network Automation.

Great product - works well even when we get large spikes

It's fast and can handle both Layer 2 and Layer 3 traffic. The GUI is very easy to use for non-technical users. If you are looking for an all in one solution with packet/flow monitoring this is it. There are only 2 things I dislike about TotalView. 1) It does not have any reporting features in the UI like other products such as NetFlow. 2) It is a little expensive. You can't beat the price point though, so if you need a layer 3/4 traffic analyzer I would recommend. We use it to monitor our…

Pros
  • Easy interface
  • Highly available support team when problems occur.
  • Great customer service from sales reps!
  • Allows configuration through CLI or web gui (if that works better)
  • Excellent documentation many examples provided via their user manuals
Cons
  • Minor Issues

Using TOTALVIEW PRO as our primary tool

There's not much to dislike about this software. It does what it says it will do. The customer service from the support team has been stellar. They are very knowledgeable and quick with answers. I wish they could have had more in depth training available for customers who did not have any experience with networking or switches. I am solving issues related to finding out why my VLANs are dropping. Sometimes the issue is resolved when using TotalView but sometimes we need to get down to the…

Pros
  • Good interface between other applications such as NetFlow Analyzer (NFA)
Cons
  • Some disadvantages

Easy way in tracking down any problems

It's easy to use because of its intuitive layout for all your networking tools. There are many options to choose from which can be overwhelming at first but once you get used it becomes easier. The tool has been reliable up until this point so nothing bad I can think to say about it other than I wish there was more advanced monitoring features like SNMP traps (which i believe they have said they will eventually release). We've always had issues with getting alerts out when we need them most…
