The design is great for walking on smooth ice.

Have used a very similar product with the same grip pattern on the sole for many years. They were really good for walking on flat, shiny ice, but when I used them in hilly, hard snow, they invariably fell off my hiking boots. So I bought them because they had a strap that I thought might solve the problem of losing or pulling out. I haven't used the new ones with a strap but I find the included strap a bit short and definitely not for heavy use. The weather here has changed, so the actual testโ€ฆ

Ideal for walking on icy surfaces.

This is a much better product for walking an icy sidewalk or crossing a slippery parking lot than a yak truck style crank. Small metal spikes provide a good grip and are quite durable. I also like that this model has a velcro strap at the top because if you're on a major incline the way the pressure is distributed can cause them to slip off without a strap. In everyday conditions, walking around the city in winter, belts are not needed. I would also advise against relying on them for seriousโ€ฆ

The grip is good when they actually stay.

Well the strap is not long enough to cross men's/boys size 5.5 Sorel shoes and keep the boots from slipping off. They fell onto ice from about 50 feet the first time. I kept putting them on, they just came off the sock. They barely wrap around the sole and don't go past the toe at all. Not impressed that the design should have more toe protection. Grip is good but they just don't stick and they are pretty tight on the sole, if you stretch them a little more they will break. They have thinnerโ€ฆ

Well, the strap is not long enough to cross men's Sorel size 5.5 sneakers and protect the ice studs from lagging behind. They fell onto ice from about 50 feet the first time.
