I have the 16 port version. It features two 40mm x 20mm 9000RPM fans mounted near the center of the PCB. They have variable speed (PWM) depending on the temperature/power of the load. When you turn on the device, they run at full speed and sound like an airplane taking off. The overall performance is perfect. I easily connect 15 5MP cameras at around 16Mbps through each port. Of course it has to handle 600-800 Mbps per port, so I don't do much. However, my device had a fairly loud fan and it is unbalanced. In other words, it's not a constant buzz. It drives with acceleration -> friction -> deceleration -> reverse noise. I contacted the seller with my problem and received no response. So if you are looking for a quieter device, you should look elsewhere…

I bought this switch for my home network and wanted to keep it on my media center furniture. Product page on Revain. Apart from the size, the fan noise is also a bit annoying in home use. Unless you can place it somewhere where noise isn't an issue, I wouldn't recommend it for your average home network. It's certainly a great switch, but I've paid enough attention to the details of the Revain product.
