Review on TRENDnet TPE-1620WS: 20-Port Gigabit PoE+ Web Smart Switch with SFP Slots - Rack Mountable, 30W per Port, 185W Total Power Budget by Keith Montague

Good router but high price and noisy unbalanced fan.

The overall performance is perfect. I easily connect 15 5MP cameras at around 16Mbps through each port. Of course it has to handle 600-800 Mbps per port, so I don't do much. However, my device had a fairly loud fan and it is unbalanced. In other words, it's not a constant buzz. It drives with acceleration -> friction -> deceleration -> reverse noise. I contacted the seller with my problem and received no response. So if you are looking for a quieter device, you should look elsewhere. Especially if you want the seller to reply to you. I was amazed that when at least 80W of power was running through the device in a 60 degree room, after the fan inlet/outlet was closed for 30 minutes (as a test), the device still barely got warm. Why on earth haven't they built in temperature based fan speed control? Or at least design with a large fan that doesn't have to run at millions of revolutions per minute? Did they think they would ONLY be installed in data centers or isolated computer rooms?
