Okay but prepare for some power cycling issues

I've been using these for years but for some reason I had trouble with them recently after a power outage. As others have reported, if power is lost at one or both ends of the link, sometimes (but not always) the link will not recover afterwards. The fix is an incredible annoyance, but at least it seems to work reliably: you have to disconnect both ends of the connection, *physically plug the ethernet cables into different ports on the ethernet switch at each end*, and then turn it back on…

Pros
  • Easy to read control panel
Cons
  • There are new competitors

The connection is interrupted at least once a day

Recommendation: do not buy! I have two of these, one at each end of a fiber that is about 350 feet long. The connection regularly breaks between fiber points. And it stays broken until one side is cut off for a few seconds. wtf. This diagnostic came from my network engineer. If the diagnosis is correct (and I tend to agree) then the adapter completely defeats the purpose of long runs. And adds hours and hours of costly troubleshooting. I live in Montana and walk 4 times today through 300 knee…

  • Only positive
Cons
  • Protection

Ideal for lightning protection or other purposes.

Bought 4 of these after lightning killed many in my house. A direct hit to a buried cable in the yard disabled a cable modem, router, cable TV to IP converter, and several switches and other devices connected to that switch. I now use them as electrical isolation between my cable modem and router and my IPTV and local area network.

Pros
  • Delivery was very quick
Cons
  • Fits

They just work. in network products

I've been using them for several years, I installed them in the SNMP management module of the TFC-1600 16-bay converter chassis system. Never had problems with them. Note that I need to set the speed to 1Gbps on my Cisco switches because they don't run at 100Mbps and a Cisco switch configured to autonegotiate starts at 100.

Pros
  • Robust design
Cons
  • There are bugs

Would buy again without hesitation.

Upgrading our legacy 100Base fiber converters to Gigabit. These things are very durable at a very affordable price. I want this to be negotiated at 100Mbps, but we can only force it to connect at 1Gbps on both sides. Not a deal breaker, but know what's going on.

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!
Cons
  • Crumpled

I will not be buying TRENDnet products again

Don't buy this unless you plan to buy two and wire them together to go copper > fiber > copper 10000Base-T RJ45. As far as plugging them straight into something like a Cisco Gbic 1000-Base SX SC to run fiber straight from your switch and converting to RJ45 at a workstation, they don't get the job done. Also, they won't auto-negotiate, so you'll have to manually configure the adapter, which is misleading when the device says the word "smart."

Pros
  • Excellent Overall Performance
Cons
  • Poor Set
