Test existing cables for higher speed compatibility and print "receipt" to document test results. Also works with coax cable and can test for the length of the cable, opens, shorts, wire map and distance to any faults that might exist. Includes Remote Unit, two CAT5e patch cables, two 9V batteries, and carrying case.

Works, I will buy.

First of all I had to send my pad back because the buttons didn't work properly - they didn't navigate properly to the next test or to a menu I didn't need. And the toner was faulty - it didn't emit a sound that could be heard even at a depth of 3 feet. . Before I sent it back though, I called Triplett (I had no problem finding the support number on their website. The recipe pointer immediately referred me to a support specialist who listed my issues with the unit and recommended I send it in…

A really useful and affordable tool to show customers proof of their cable performance. This is, they say, the only one of its kind. The closest competitor is an Ideal Machine, which costs $1,500 and doesn't really do much better. And REAL gigabit scanners (testers) go to 5 or 6G! Let me first say that I really liked this tester as at this price we could keep it in trucks as a backup. With that said, here's what we found. In the real world portion of the tester, things feel weird from the start. In the "Real World" test, the cable shows a "PASS" test result if the data flow is sufficient even with an open pair.
