I use granola as a treat I have a 13 year old bichon/poodle who figured it out in 30 seconds the first time. It's still one of our favorites for a number of reasons: durability (I haven't had to tighten or adjust this puzzle even after a few rough play sessions), easy to clean, it's quiet, no pieces to collect or track, and it is very easy to load. . Little Mikey (Schnoodle) took a little time to figure out what to do to make the treat fall out, several sessions with it.
