Now I understand, this is a high quality material

It's really amazing. I have another pair of padded compression shorts that I bought from Revain at half the price of these. I have to say, hands down, they are 100 times better. I'm wearing them now and going straight to the MTB park.

Pros
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • Big and bulky

Protection and comfort

Protection and comfort. Used on MTB rides after hip replacement as a little extra protection in the event of a fall. The padding has a slightly firm outer surface and subtle padding on the side of the thigh. I pulled on looser spandex riding shorts over that and barely realized I was wearing them. Recommend

Pros
  • GOLS certification
Cons
  • Interchangeable

Padding not as full as Zoic or Alpinetars

I have a lot of Troy Lee stuff and love their products but in this case the padding is only on the outside of the thigh and leg lining. The most complete padding I've found is on the Zoic Impact liner, and the second most complete is the Alpinstars Evolution. I didn't notice any significant loss of freedom of movement with these two compared to this Troy Lee liner. All seem to have good suede to protect the seat from rubbing.

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Could have gone for a newer model

Not cheap but worth it!

These shorts don't come cheap, but let me tell you, they're worth the money. I have previously used a similar model with slightly less protection (the foam was slightly softer). They have better protection that won't bother you while riding, but will protect your buttocks, thighs and some bones if you accidentally fall while mountain biking. Very comfortable and correct size according to the size chart. Shock Doctor has great products and TLD chose their co-brand partner correctly!

Pros
  • The best in their niche
Cons
  • New competitors have emerged

Very happy. Exceeded my expectations!

Very happy with these shorts. Really exceeded my expectations and turned out to be exactly what I was hoping for. I'm 5ft 6in, 150lbs and the average height fits me perfectly. I use them for mountain biking in fairly rocky areas and was hoping the pads would have a hard surface rather than just flimsy foam pads. This is EXACTLY what I was looking for for my needs. The pads are perfectly positioned for hip/thigh side impact and the pads have a semi-rigid foam backing under the protectiveโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Handsfree
Cons
  • Functionality

Real protection is best for men

A few months ago I was in a pretty bad bike accident and ended up with a HUGE bruise on my thigh. Dropped the wheel in a rut and landed right on my thigh. It was my hip against the sidewalk and the sidewalk won. I've been riding for about 15 years and have fallen about 5-6 times including two fairly bad incidents. I decided to seriously look into additional protection. I have tried several different brands/models of quilts including Troy Lee BP7605 and BP5605 pants. BP 7605 is the best of allโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Easy to read control panel

POC no longer suitable for men

I've seen a lot of videos about safety shorts. I was turning 39 and needed extra protection so I ordered a pair of POC vpd bottom shorts. I ordered a size that fit my specs and they were huge. In my opinion, the biggest drawback was the massive panels on the sides. It felt and looked like someone taped an ironing board to MG's thigh. You'll laugh when you have them. After a day of riding I was glad to have her but not in love. Also, it was 30 degrees Fahrenheit and they were drenched in sweatโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Quality construction
Cons
  • Durable
