Not suitable for aquariums

Do not buy this substrate under any circumstances. it will never stop seeping gunpowder into your tank. I had to restart my aquarium and remove this sand. No matter how long you keep it underwater, it will never stop turning the water black. I thought I'd just put it on, it can't be that bad. Eventually some settled and the water cleared up a bit, but the black powder just covered everything in the tank. I had to throw it away. total waste of money.

Looks good needs a bit of rinsing

Good quality substrate. It's a lot less sand and more little beads. It makes an excellent base substrate for my plants, I've been able to grow quite a few carpet plants so far. The roots don't fight to get through it. I almost didn't have to flush it at all before the water flowing through was completely clear, the cleanest substrate I've used but YMMV above. My only real complaints: price per pound, bought £4 for $24 and it's barely half what you need for a 10 gallon planted tank. The weight…

Don't expect much

I bought several packs of UP Aqua Shrimp Substrate for a couple of aquariums (20 Long PFR/10 PRL) as I am new to the market and have had some rave reviews. Here in the US we don't get many of the substrates available in Hong Kong, Japan and Europe due to import restrictions and a general lack of importers. has not given.
