more useful than expected

I don't usually write product reviews but this thing was great from the start. Why do I need this for starters: I wanted to build a very small, standalone computer, that's all. I had a Pi, a portable charger that could power it, a case, and a few other tools that worked, but I still needed a screen. For $25, you get a Pi-sized touchscreen, a couple of heatsinks, a stylus, and a box of foam. I don't need a touchscreen for my computer, but when I'm doing something else it's really handy. Device…

Very good HDMI monitor for Raspberry Pi

Works out of the box for HDMI video, although you can optimize the image by setting the resolution closer to 480x320. It seems to handle many different resolutions without problems. But for the touchscreen, you need to add some software. I found that I didn't have to replace the core like in their software. Instead I used the Waveshare version (google "Waveshare 3.5inch HDMI LCD wiki") and their LCD-show-180817.tar.gz. It seems to suit me. I liked that it only blocks the required pins and not…

Good value for money. does the job.

It was really nice that they included an SD card with a fully working operating system and drivers installed. I started by using my existing SD and installing their drivers from their website. The screen does what I want. I needed this for a character mode terminal emulator. In the X Windows GUI, it is too small to be used as a desktop as it only shows part of the desktop. The settings bar is too big and you don't see the OK button. (Hint: Press Alt-O to press OK.) . It is what it is and you…

Works as intended but with small flaws

I bought this to use with RetroPie software and it works amazing but with some flaws. Don't get me wrong I would definitely buy it again and the flaws are very minor in my opinion. 1: The HDMI connector is very tight and difficult to remove without using excessive force. 2: dead pixels. There is a small cluster of dead pixels in the top right corner of my screen. It's not a big problem but if it gets worse (it used to be just a small ring) I will come back and buy this product again. 3: When…

Surprisingly good screen

I bought this in November 2020 to use with TouchUI and Octoprint on a Raspberry Pi 3B+. I didn't have a graphical desktop installed and did everything from the Raspian terminal. Installation was pretty easy. Immediately after connecting it works like a normal monitor without drivers installed. For me it was in 1080p, so I couldn't see much on the tiny 3.5-inch screen. So I connected the Pi to my regular monitor and followed the instructions in the package to install the drivers. Anyone can do…

Pros
  • Sturdy construction
Cons
  • There are new competitors

This could have been 4 stars but the fan on the unit is rubbish, the bearings started making a loud grinding noise after 1 day of use and when I took it out to check Due from noise the sticker on the fan fell off and I resorted to a small piece of Kapton tape to seal the exposed solder joints on the fan. This is the second LCD I've bought from Utronics, the first had no fan, button controlled rotation. For the record, my project is to use the Pi as an LCD touch device with a camera and a relay…

Pros
  • Easy to read control panel
Cons
  • Not as thick as other picks

Some issues but it's good enough for the low price.

Works like a charm. It's very, very, very small. The board is almost the same size as a Pi 2 or 3 board and is designed to connect directly to a Pi 2 or 3. I'm not going to connect it directly (my Pi is in a case, but I took that to test), but it's designed to. I haven't tested the touchscreen yet (not sure I'll bother with that) and there's an audio jack, which I'm not sure I'll play around with for any purpose either. I hooked it up to a cheap PSU to see how it behaved and everything worked…

Pros
  • High marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • poorly thought out
