I used the litter exactly as directed - sprinkled on a clean tray of fresh litter. I have 2 older cats who have been neutered and thought this was the perfect way to test their pH levels. One of them refused to use the tray at all and went about his business (for the first time in his life) in the corridor across the house. Another cat buries everything so carefully that you can't see if the color of the stuffing has changed. Don't waste your money on this product.

My cat has difficulty potty training like a person with a UTI. I bought it in a hurry to get a veterinary supplement. The litter was found to have a low pH in her urine. This product will not work with clumping litter. The instructions give two options: Spread the product on the bottom of the bowl and cover with litter OR pour on top of the litter. If you spread it out on the bottom of the tray, urine will never reach it because the litter sticks together before the liquid reaches the bottom. If you apply it over it, it will mix with the litter if your cat scratches it at all. Even if there are residues on it, the filling will become so dark when glued together

Love it - inexpensive and easy to use. If your cat is anything like my cat, changing the litter will scare her and she will avoid the litter box for a while. When my cat finally used the letter it was hard to tell if that was normal or not because the sand that was on the litter mixed with the litter after the kitten covered up his business. I used this as described by another reviewer and it worked. My cat is currently under treatment and is doing better. Worth a good price. I've used it with natural (corn based) clumping litter.
