Within 24 hours of setting up this habitat, the ants worked together as a team, extended the side latches, and escaped. I have to give the ants 5 stars and this product 1 star because I didn't take this into account. Maybe I have super smart and strong ants?

Not a single ant escaped! Although small ants should not be planted there, because they will run away. The type of ants you get from this company (which you have to send) are the perfect size. Our first delivery of ants froze because my husband didn't bring any mail and it was 28F outside. We just got a refill pack (50 ants) and they are fine.

We received the ant farm and got our free ants from the company. The ants showed up about two weeks later. There were about 30 live ants in two test tubes. We followed the instructions to T and by the second day we had killed a third of the ants. On day 4 we had 12. Today is day 7 and everyone is dead. The children are very disappointed. Basically we watched them tunnel for two days and then we buried the dead the whole time. We have emailed the company and to date have had no response.

Ants need food, but (depending on what you feed them) the food gets moldy after a while and looks gross on the farm. Also, since no queen was sent, please note that your ants will only live for a few weeks. I had high hopes for this ant farm considering it was for my daughter's 5th birthday and it was the first item on her list. We had fun installing it and I ordered the ants to come in so we didn't have to wait for them to come.
