Waterproof, HA - Automotive and Vehicle Electronics

Ha, the title says this piece of shit is waterproof and the radio says "SUBMERSIBLE". My girlfriend used it in a kayak it got wet and poof and fried the zap radio! ! !TIPS , Anything can be submerged in water, even my computer, it doesn't mean it will work after getting wet.

  • Great overall specs

Does not work well with salt water

I bought this radio last year, it has worked great for 6 to 8 months but continued use in salt water conditions and the fact that it cannot be rinsed off after each use, has definitely degraded the radio . Now it's started to fail, doesn't transmit and the speaker is static all the time. The battery charging ports are glazed and must be cleaned with sandpaper. I would say overall this radio is not waterproof, maybe fresh water proof. but in general salt water eats the radio!

  • Free for educational purposes

Overall good product, poor customer service!

I have to say this is a great radio in terms of features and overall build quality. I've tried almost every high-tech VHF radio and hoped that after the bad experiences with the standard Horizon 870 & Co. that would be a great alternative. After using the radio for 6 weeks, the metal contact on the battery fell off, meaning I could no longer charge the PDA. I have contacted the manufacturer. They have provided me with a new battery as soon as they are back in stock. It's been 6 months and…

Takes the term "submersible " very seriously.

I bought this to replace an old Uniden swim model I bought a few years ago that had decided to stop working. I bought it on September 21st and took it to the marina. As I climbed into my Zodiac, the clip came off my strap and it immediately sank about 10 feet into the water. The water in Narragansett Bay is opaque this time of year so I figured it was lost. Fast forward to November 14th and I'm retrieving something I left at the dock. It was a dead tide. I look down at the now clear water and…

  • Good product for the price

  • Definitely bad product

I tried to scan the radio at about 8 miles from well.

I tested this radio in my truck for about 3 weeks to see how it held up. I tried scanning the radio about 8 miles offshore to see if I could hear Coast Guard messages and it passed my test. The test was conducted on the California coast near Santa Monica Beach. When it comes to life safety I wouldn't use a product until I'm happy with what people have to say about the product. Do not get me wrong. It's always nice to hear positive feedback, but I like to convince myself first by doing what a…

The best options are the best in marine electronics

First I want to say that this radio worked pretty well when it worked. The sound was clear and the range was good. The screen was bright and the battery life was good. However, there are some design flaws. First, it's a battery clip. Our clip broke within a month of owning the radio (attached with a zip tie around the entire radio). It wasn't just our ship that had this problem as we've seen at least one other cruiser with the exact same problem (it became a table joke that evening). Second…
