Bought in response to a question that the links open so you don't have to thread the harness. In short, the block that was sent to me does not open. I have no doubt that other models have received openings (I don't want to call anyone a liar) but mine definitely isn't opening. Unfortunately, it would be impossible for me to lay the lines for my application.

This "necklace" is incredibly robust and the workmanship is first class. He can't physically lie flat without 5-10 pounds of pressure, and he won't stay up if you're weak. You have to loosen each individual limb and unfold the legs that form the physical stop so each individual limb has the extra millimeter it takes to fully expand to 180 degrees, not 175 degrees.
