Excellent for the price, just stay close to an outlet.

I have used this solder to attach wires, reuse old diodes and melt small pieces of plastic. It was useful for small jobs around the house. The temperature control is also excellent and extremely useful. However, I have to dock the star due to two main issues: some devices have a light or hiss to indicate usage, and this one has neither. The biggest problem, however, is that the device is not firmly plugged into the socket. Any light touch will cause the fork to move, hence my previous…

I'm frustrated and couldn't detach the joystick from my Xbox One controller

Update: I've now learned how to do it. Back then I didn't have the tools to disassemble the entire controller. Soldering irons are only suitable for soldering, not for desoldering. It was very difficult for me to remove the joysticks from the board. It pissed me off so much I broke the controller out of frustration. After 6 hours of trying to desolder with a suction cup, that helped more than the wicks. I'm new to disassembly. I spent 6 hours trying to keep calm until I got rid of my…

Beginners should start with the best kit. Spend $20 more. It's worth it, I promise.

This is more than I expected for the price so I'm giving it a 5 star rating with a HUGE CAUTION that absolute beginners shouldn't start with it, they should spend the extra money instead. to get one of the other slightly more expensive soldering kits that come with an attached soldering iron holder (not the cheap flip-out ones from this kit) and a sponge (you'll need to clean the tip frequently).
