I'm in love with this brush. The bristles have a surprisingly stiff backbone, making the shaving soap surprisingly comfortable to use. Much like a boar brush, this brush picks up the perfect amount of water to make the lather very light. Bristle softness is softer than boar and pure/better badger, but more scratchy than super badger and above. I really like this brush. It's long and fairly stiff, which allows me to "apply" the soap to my face easily and accurately, making it easier to work around the beard area. The smell that other reviewers mention is negligible; it's not that scary and goes away very quickly. And the fact that no animals were harmed in the making is just a bonus for me. Would definitely buy this again!
